The Greater Chicago Whippet Club is a local breed club affiliated with the American Kennel Club. Its purpose is:

to encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-breed whippets and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection:
to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which whippets shall be judged:
to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging sportsmanlike competition as dog shows, obedience trials, tracking tests, field trials and all other activities involving whippets:
to conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, obedience trials and tracking tests and field trials under the rules of The American Kennel Club.
to conduct educational events, for the general public as well as Club members, race meets, lure coursing events and other whippet activities of interest to Club members.
